About the CISR

The Canadian Institute for Synchrotron Radiation (CISR) was formed in 1989 as a national organization to promote synchrotron radiation research and development. Its mission includes coordinating, encouraging and supporting synchrotron radiation users in Canada’s university, government and industrial communities.

Synchrotron radiation is the light produced when an extremely high-speed beam of charged particles (such as electrons) is bent in a magnetic field.
